Why the list is free
Most email tools price by contacts: 50,000 addresses on the list puts you in a 50,000 tier, whether you mail them every day or once a quarter. day3 meters the thing that costs something to do, which is sending. Store 50,000 contacts, or ten times that, and the bill only changes when you write to them.
We don't print other tools' prices here. They change, and a stale figure is worse than none. Take the emails-per-month numbers above to their pricing page and run them yourself.
Questions
- How much does day3 cost for 50,000 subscribers?
- Nothing for the subscribers. You pick a plan by monthly sends: 50,000 contacts emailed once a month is 50,000 emails, which fits the 50,000 plan at $14/mo. Weekly is 200,000 emails, $60/mo.
- Does the price go up as the list grows?
- Only if you send more. Import another ten thousand contacts and mail them nothing, and the bill does not move. Every plan has unlimited subscribers.
- What happens if I go over the plan?
- Sending pauses at the cap until the month rolls over or you move up a plan. You are never billed an overage you did not choose.
- Do transactional emails count against the same allowance?
- Yes. Password resets, receipts and campaigns share one allowance and one domain. For most product teams transactional volume is a small share of the total.
- Why is this so much cheaper than per-subscriber tools?
- Per-subscriber tools charge for every address on the list every month, whether you email it or not. day3 charges for the emails that actually go out. On a list you mail weekly the gap is real but modest. On a list you mail monthly it is large.
